Description: Ponni rice is a white rice very popular in South India, especially in the Tamil Nadu region. Ponni rice is very fluffy, soft, delicious and is perfect for rice bowls, thali (Indian-style lunch or dinner served with rice and curry), etc.
Ponni Rice is a variety of rice grown in South India. Ponni literally means gold in Tamil and also refers to the Kaveri River.
Boiled Ponni rice cooks a firmer and less sticky rice dish than regular white rice.
How to Use & Cook -
It is used to make preparations like Kichadi, which is called Ven Pongal and is usually served with coconut chutney and sambhar.
Soak the rice for 30-45 minutes before cooking. Cleaning the rice after soaking is not recommended.
Nutritional Values:
Unlike brown and white rice, the process of boiled ponni rice starts before removing the husk. Due to this special rice processing, boiled ponni rice is a better source of fiber, calcium, potassium, and vitamin B-6 than regular white rice.
Because boiled ponni rice is low in fiber, it is suitable for children and soothing to the digestive system.
